The Writing Initiative
The Writing Initiative addresses the need to prepare undergraduate students in the Division of Social Sciences to write successfully, to engage more actively with course content, and to develop a sense of disciplinary belonging through writing. This initiative includes the following innovative programs:
• Quarterly faculty workshops that provide pedagogical tools for improving student writing (see dates to the right)
• A pilot study that works closely with participating faculty teaching upper-division courses to provide students with scaffolded writing assignments and individualized feedback from trained peer tutors
• A satellite Social Science Undergraduate Writing Center in Powell Library to support the writing and presentation needs of all students in the Division
