T-Lab

SSIDP T-LAB

The T-Lab has been created to spur innovative research into teaching and learning in the social sciences. Through a series of multidisciplinary and collaborative research studies, we will produce original data about pedagogies and student experiences in the social sciences.

The T-Lab includes faculty mentors working with a team of undergraduate researchers to design a study focused on lecture format courses. Some of the questions we will consider are:

• How do lectures vary across fields, disciplines, and instructors?
• How are lectures experienced by students? How do these experiences vary as a function of student background, beliefs, attitudes, and motivation?
• How are students affected by their participation in lecture courses? What and how do they learn?

As we develop a shared understanding of the lecture itself, we will begin generating and testing ideas for how to improve the lecture. What’s working, and what could be improved?

Undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in joining the T-Lab should contact ssidp@ucla.edu for more information.
