UCLA Master of Social Science Program

 

Position Description:

The UCLA Master of Social Science program (MaSS) is seeking to hire a lecturer for Fall 2022 to teach SOC SC 402 Quantitative Data Analysis in Social Science. This course is required for all students enrolled in the MaSS program. The expected enrollment is approximately 25 students. SOC SC 402 introduces students to fundamental statistics and data science tools widely used in the social sciences. Students develop core skills for evaluating and presenting quantitative research evidence. The statistical concepts covered include descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, probability, statistical tests, correlation and causation, and regression analysis. This course uses of the R statistical programming language.

The course is taught in a seminar format and include a mix of lecture, demonstration of software tools, tutorial-guided self-study, team-based collaborative work, and discussion.

Qualifications:

Applicants should hold a PhD in a social science or related discipline. Prior experience teaching quantitative methods, quantitative data analysis or statistics, preferably with experience teaching at the graduate level, is required. Additionally, mastery of R statistical programming is necessary.
